Strive for Success With Singh
About Me
When I was eight years old, I immigrated to New York from India with my parents and siblings and attended public schools on Long Island. My mother and father worked in warehouses, with my father holding three jobs to make ends meet. I learned English through my public school’s ESL program (English as a Second Language), and my family’s low income qualified me for reduced-price school lunches. These programs were tremendously helpful to me and my family as we worked hard to achieve success. I hope to give my time and talents to my community’s public schools by serving on the school board, as a way of giving back for what was given to me.
My humble public school may have lacked extracurricular opportunities and up-to-date books, but the staff and teachers cared about every student’s progress. My teachers’ support for my learning, along with my family’s belief that a good education opens doors and offers life opportunities, helped me to succeed. I entered the Gifted & Talented program, enrolled in Honors and AP classes, and became the salutatorian of my graduating class. The challenges I faced as a young immigrant in public school strengthened my character, grew my resilience, and were foundational to my future professional and personal success.
After high school, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, then a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Recently I earned a Master of Business Administration through University of Massachusetts Amherst.
My family has lived in Wisconsin since 2017, and in Brookfield since 2018. My wife and I have two children, ages 14 and 10. Together we are dedicated supporters of our son’s and daughter’s academic and extracurricular success, along with their personal growth.
I am currently a practicing physician in Milwaukee and am fortunate to work with patients from all walks of life, plus medical students, and physicians-in-training. I have held various leadership positions and developed programs to benefit patients within my current organization. I also serve on the board of directors of state and national medical societies, while maintaining memberships in other healthcare related organizations.
Why I Am Running for Elmbrook School Board
I am a beneficiary of the enrichment a public education can provide even when significant obstacles may require special support. I believe that all students deserve a school environment that allows them to strive for educational excellence and success, and that a strong public education supports the future of our youth, as well as the future of our community. I still recall the positive influence – and names – of many of my early teachers because they helped me gain critical skills, increase my knowledge, develop my character, and grow my self-confidence as I strived for success. I want to ensure that Elmbrook continues to provide a great education for every child, focusing on merit-based academic excellence. I also want to guide Elmbrook to continue to help build strong character in its students. Finally, I want to support Elmbrook’s responsible use of technology in schools to enable excellent academic outcomes for our next generation of students.
